Lindora president and CEO Cynthia Stamper Graff appeared on The Larry Elder Show on Monday, April 25 and encouraged four overweight children and teenagers to take the first steps toward losing weight and becoming healthier.
Graff was invited by producers of the nationally-syndicated television show to talk with the young people--and their parents--about successful strategies for lasting weight loss. Graff encouraged the kids to think of themselves as having fat rather than being fat. She explained that fat isn't who we are, and that while it may be something each of the kids happens to have at this moment in their lives, they can choose not to have it if they're willing to make changes in their eating habits and level of activity.
"By learning what different foods do to and for our bodies, kids can begin asking themselves 'Is this a healthy choice?'," Graff explained. "Many young people, for example, are amazed to learn that it can take five hours to walk off the calories from one super-size fast food meal. This kind of information puts food in a context that really helps them understand how what they eat is directly related to how they look and feel. They have the power and ability to access the information they need to begin making better choices."
All four of the kids featured on the show--Nikki, 17, from Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Cristian, 12, from Sherman Oaks, California; Breanna, 11, from West Covina, California; and Dave, 12, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania--were given copies of Cynthia's best-selling Lean for Life book, as well as copies of bodyPride, her book written specially for teenagers. Southern California residents Cristian and Breanna were invited to do the Lindora clinic program, while Nikki and Dave were each given a Lindora Online program.
"Nikki, Breanna, Cristian and Dave represent millions of kids across America who know what it feels like to be different," says Graff. "Being overweight is a challenge no matter what one's age, but it's especially painful for kids. My hope is that our conversation will inspire many kids watching the show to become more active and more conscious about the food choices they make every day."
